Gas Bottle Cage

Gas Storage Cage

Meet HSE requirements. A gas bottle that has its regulator damaged can become airborne and lethal.

Our panel system is modular so any shape can be made to suit the number of gas bottles you stock. The cage panels simply bolts together, the doors are prefit.

There is metal pallet base option on the 4ft square cages to allow the filled cages to be moved by fork lift truck.

The cages are used to protect from theft, they are padlockable. For this reason the cage panels are commonly used as site toolboxes that can be easily assembled/disasembled.

The smallest size available is 4ft high x 4ft x 2ft.

Gas Bottle Cage Size & Price Calculator

The below calculator works out the cost of a run of any given size.

  • Firstly how many sides would your gas bottle cage have? Is your cage freestanding (4sided) against a wall (3 sided) or against 2 walls i.e. in a corner (2sided)
  • Do you want a mesh Roof? selct yes or no
  • Select your sizes. The normal height is 6ft (1.8m) but we also offer 1.2 and 2.4m options.
  • Use the "Gas Bottle information"-"what size how many bottles" tab to see what is required
  • If you want to discuss what size gas storage cage you should have then please call us and we would be happy to help
  • The calculator produces the panel list for the cage you require that can be then added to your basket in one go.
  • The more panels you have the cheaper they get, don't be suprised if the panels in your basket get cheaper when you add more.
  • If over 2.4m in both length and width you will need to install support post/s. The calculator works out panels to cover the area only and does not calculate what is required to roof support the roof. We don't supply support posts.

    Delivery of Components.

The components supplied are those required to assemble the cage as specified online by the customer. They will be delivered kerbside.

Wherever possible a tail lift will be used to lower them to the ground where this is not practicable then the components will need to be manually handled.

Prior to the commencement of assembly, the customer should check to ensure that all components as per the given inventory are present.

    Assembly of the Components.

It is advised that when handling or assembling the components that suitable tear and cut resistant safety gloves and sturdy closed footwear are worn.

Where heavier components are being handled or assembled it is recommended that two persons carry out the lifting, handling and supporting during the assembly process.

The product must be assembled as per the layout supplied by Fine Mesh Metals Ltd.

When assembling the cage it must be ensured that the tools used are in good condition and suitable for the task e.g. the right size to tighten the fixings supplied.

The cage should be assembled on firm, level ground.

Structures in excess of 2.0 metres in height.

Where the structure is in excess of 2.0 metres in height then a suitable means of access and a working platform with adequate fall protection must be used.

For competent trades persons and commercial customers the duty of care requirements in Section 2 and 3 of the Health and safety at Work Act 1974, the risk assessment requirements of Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and Regulations 4-10 of the Working at Height Regulations 2005 must be met.

For structures in excess of 2.4 metres.

Any product in excess of 2.4 metres in height should be installed by a competent tradesperson ONLY. They should produce their own risk assessment and method statement for the task.

Roof Supports for structures in excess of 2.4m in both width and length.

The panels are supplied to cover the area only. The roof support has not been calculated and will need to be supported if over 2.4 metres in any direction. When the number of support posts required is being calculated it is important to take into account the potential for snow to rest on the roof as this will add considerably to the weight of the roof or the risk of collapse.

The weight of snow is as below:

    Fixings

Nuts bolts and washers have been supplied to bolt the panels together. The doors are prehung. You will need your own fixing to attach to the ground or walls. The panels have been predrilled. For smaller cages a plastic plug and screw will suffice.

    Contact details for assistance

Should you have any queries regarding assembly please contact Fine Mesh Metals Ltd on 01902 810310, online using live chat or sales@finemeshmetals.co.uk.

These can be added to any 4ft square cage. I.e a 4ft 6ft or 8ft high cage can accept this base panel.

    Cylinder Safety HSE Requirements

    https://www.calor.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/PDF/code-of-guidance-for-storage-of-cylinders.pdf

please see the above for calor's guidance on the storage of gas bottles. The below is a summary.

Commercial Gas such as Butane and Propane are defined under LPG regulation BS: 4250
Leakage of liquid from the cylinder will result in large volumes of flammable gas. As this gas is heavier than air, leaked gas will flow at ground level and can be ignited at a considerable distance from source.
It is for this reason that wherever possible gas bottles should be stored outside .
Cylinder stacks and cylinder areas situated outdoors are un zoned provided they comply with the following distance requirements. Furthermore there should be no cellars, pits or openings to buildings within 2m of the storage area.

Total quantity of LPG Storage in containers

Minimum separation distance to boundary, building or fixed ignition source,

    15 to 400kg

    1m

    400 to 1000kg

    3m

    1000 to 4000kg

    4m

The outlet valve of every cylinder should be kept closed while the cylinder is in storage. Plastic caps or plugs must be fitted to cylinders even when they are considered to be empty. Cylinders must be stored with their valve uppermost and at least one 9kg dry powder fire extinguisher must be kept within the vicinity of the storage area and serviced regularly.

    If storage outside is impossible:
The Maximum weight of Lpg cylinders stored within a shop or office is 70kg, maximum cylinder capacity is 20kg or no more than 5 cylinders. If there is  residential  accommodation attached this is reduced t0 15kg.
For the carriage of cylinders in closed vans see UKLPG Code of Practice No. 27.

    Gas bottle storage Specifications:

The panels are manufactured from 2" x 1" Welded Mesh with 3mm diameter wire with a 25mm box section frame which are galvanized then black powder coated. If you have a wall you wish to incorporate into the pen you can attach our panels with wall plugs using the holes already available in the panels.

Several sizes of gas bottle panels are available, sides doors are 6ft x 4ft. (1830mm high x 1220mm wide) with the opening section being 700mm.
Storage cages are very easy installation with only 3 coach bolts required to join panels. The same applies for the doors, which are already fitted into the frames

All panels are pre-drilled on the verticals through both faces this means that any panel can be used either as side or a corner panel. Hence the system is versatile enough to make any shape or length

As the system is modular it can be taken down quickly and reassembled. This allows you to move the run around.
Modular Design means you can easily choose to have your cage as big or small as you require, and if at a later date you decide you need it to be larger, then all you have to do is add more panels

Storage Cage accepts padlock under latch.

The below Chart Is a scale drawing of Common gas bottle types and how they fit into the gas bottle Storage panels. The cages can be extended in any combination of 2 feet sizes.

Example if you had 9 number 47kg propane bottles to store. You could do this in a 4ft x 4ft cage or a 12ft x 2ft cage.

Air conditioning cages are widely used to stop rubbish getting into the units either naturally or through vandalism.

Air conditioning units are targeted for theft due to the high resale value the air conditioning cages help defend against this.
